I figured it’d be better to start this blog the second day--after I got a better feel for things. Well, now that it is the second day, I’m a little less nervous, a tiny bit more confident, and still have no idea what I'm doing.
If any of my friends or family were to describe me, I can guarantee you that nobody would include the words fashion, chic, or stylish. Nonetheless, I scored a kickass internship working at NYC's Fashion Week following an up-and-coming famous celebrity hair stylist, Cesar Ramirez (cesar4styles.com). I sit in the corner of large, fancy conference rooms and thousand-dollar hotel suits taking everything in and then blog for him. Since I'm blogging for him, why not do it for myself as well?
So, as I mentioned, today is my second day, but it feels like I've been around these people and in these stressful situations for months. Yesterday I started working at 4:30am and didn't finish until after 6pm--I thought I'd been working for two days, but at the same time, I didn't want the day to end. The energy is indescribable, the environments are stimulating, and the people are different from anything I've ever known. I've met models, celebrities, editors, and producers. I've gone from rolling my eyes when cocky stylists substitute real girls' names with "girl number one," to joining them, referring to the girls as numbers instead of using names.
This morning I sat in a large, modern conference room located in the Conde Nast building at Times Square. I was surrounded by 10-15 strangers who were all dressed like people I've only seen on TV shows or in movies. This is a whole new world that I didn't know existed in real life. Yesterday, I worked in a $1,000/night hotel suite in the Mondrian Hotel in SoHo. What?
It's only 11am on my second day, I've given out all 15 copies of my resume that I brought, I've been up for hours, met tons of influential people, and still have a whole day ahead of me. This is one of those times in life that I can honestly say I have no idea what will happen next!
